We are so glad you are here!
Bradley and I grew up together in Knoxville, TN. We started dating in high school and little did we know that we would actually end up getting married, moving to Cleveland, GA, raising a family together and starting a business.
The Lord had His fingerprints all over our story. Bradley met my Grandma at my sixteenth birthday party. If you had known my Grandma, you would know that she loved any kind of party and had a very special relationship with Jesus. I knew she always cared about me and my future husband. After the party, she asked me if I knew Bradley. I said I knew of him - he talked with with my Grandma more than me that day! Time went on and we started dating. I was a sophomore in high school and he was a junior. We dated all throughout high school and college. During college, we spent most of our time with friends, studying, and being Young Life leaders.
One summer in college, Bradley decided to work at a Christian summer camp in Cleveland, GA, and two summers later, I decided to work at that same summer camp. Bradley has always loved camp and I learned to love summer camp. It ended up being one of the best summers I’ve ever had! In April of 2011, we got married, went on our honeymoon and moved to this camp to work as interns. We were only paid $100 each week!! We gained so much experience while working at this internship. We thought we would only stay at this camp a year or so, gain some summer camp experience and then move out to Missouri (Bradley’s family has a farm there that we thought we could turn into a camp one day). However, the Lord had different plans…
The Lord was gently nudging me to apply for a full-time Office Manager position at this camp. After a lot of prayer and conversations with Bradley, we decided that I should take the job. Bradley was offered a full-time position shortly after me as the Maintenance Manager. After several years of working in these roles, our camp director asked us to go to dinner with him and his wife and told Bradley that he wanted to promote him to a director position! We were both so surprised and excited! And, of course, he said yes!
During this time, we also wanted to start building our family. The Lord also had different plans for us, but man, were his plans so much better than ours! We tried to have a baby for several years only for the doctors to tell us that we had unexplained infertility. It was the worst news and a season that was really hard to walk through. Bradley and I decided that we wanted to move forward in pursuing a family even if we couldn’t have our own biological children. I had some contacts at DFCS from my office job and they directed me where to start the fostering journey.
We completed all of the impact classes necessary to open our home to fostering in August of 2018. When our case worker asked us what kind and how many kids our home was open to, I blurted out, We’d be open to two or three kids ages six and under. The Lord definitely spoke these words out of my mouth because Bradley and I had never discussed opening our home to more kids than two at a time and we wanted them to be five and under. Our caseworker just looked at us and smiled. She said, I actually have three boys (all biological brothers) that are six and under and ready to be adopted right now. We were stunned. She told us their names and immediately we started praying about the next steps for our family.
By December os 2018, we met the boys, had individual time with each of them and decided that we wanted to move forward with the adoption. By February of 2019, the boys moved in with us full time. I was driving at least 40 minutes both ways taking them to school and trying to hold down my full time job at the camp. It was a wild, exciting and tiring time, but it was so good.
On September 20, 2019, the boys were adopted! It was such an amazing experience. We were gathered by so many friends and family during this time. And I really learned that it takes a village to raise a family. After we adopted the boys, I still always wondered if we would ever have our own biological children. It didn’t cross my mind too much, but I was still open to it. In August of 2020, the Lord surprised us again! We were pregnant with our daughter. It was a complete surprise and very overwhelming. And then the Lord surprised us again with another daughter in 2025! He is so good! We have definitely had our ups and downs and I know that more are on the way, but I give God all the glory for building our family the way He did. I wouldn’t change a thing.
A verse that has become a constant reminder to always see the good + do the good is Ephesians 2:10. It says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” God is still writing our story and He is still writing yours. There is still a lot of good work to be done.
Love, The McDuffies
